"Hey Ray! How's Lucinda doing? Ready to pop I bet." Syndie, or better known as Syn, asked while reaching across the hot window to grab the food Ray just put up. Syn was new to the town of Gorham, New Hampshire. She just moved there two months ago, but already new the locals by name at the diner she worked at. She was a waitress at Lucinda's Diner. The best diner in town. She loved this little town and the people in it.
"Oh you know how you women can be. Soft and sweet in one moment and then an emotional temperament takes over. I'm definitely ready for Lucinda to pop out Junior any moment now." Ray flipped the burgers on the grill and gave Syn a wink.
"Right Ray. We women are all alike. My mistake for asking, but don't let Lucinda hear you talking about her or Junior like that." Syn took the food and walked away before turning her head back towards Ray and blowing a playful kiss in his direction.
Just as Syn set the food down in front of her guests the door chimed and in walked the sheriff and two deputies. They tipped their hats before sitting down in the corner booth and motioned for Syn to come over. Wiping her hands off on her apron, Syn greeted the officers.
"Gentleman. Will you all be having the usual?" The sheriff nodded in agreement with the other two and Syn went back to relay the order to Ray. About ten minutes later Syn was delivering the food to the officers and checking on her other guests. This was how her life had been since she moved here. She worked the night shift and became very acquainted with all sorts of fellows, especially the one's who came in to town for hunting. The night shift was never dull and that’s why the officers stopped by for dinner every night.
Syn walked up to the counter to greet some regulars of the diner. One of those regulars happened to be Malachi. She didn't know too much about the quiet man who came in every night she worked, but Malachi was a handsome man. He had jet black hair and enough scruff on his face to call it a beard. But it was his eyes that caught her attention the first time she saw him. She had never seen lavender colored eyes before. They were captivating and beautiful. And when he looked at her, it was as if he could see straight through to her soul. It just amplified his appeal to her.
Most of the time he was by himself, but today he was with Ed. Ed wasn't the nicest guy and always flirted with Syn in a way that made her a little uneasy. She couldn't put her finger on it, but there was something off with Ed. He was always staring at her in a creepy way and tonight was no different.
Malachi seemed to sense her unease when she first approached them and then when she delivered their food. "Stop staring at her like that, Ed. She's not a piece of meat." He told Ed in a quiet voice so she didn't hear.
"Ah, shut the hell up Mal! I'm going to ask her out and she'll say yes. You watch and see. She gives me this look every time I come in here and I know she's undressing me with her eyes, man. She wants me and you're just jealous she doesn't want some low life like you. Don't think I haven't noticed the way you look at her." Ed spat his words at him and called Syn over.
"Whatcha need Ed? I'm kinda busy." Syn asked nervously interlocking her fingers and swaying from one foot to the other.
"Baby, listen. I think you and I should get together after your shift and have a good time. Fuck! Have a great time." Ed reached over the counter, grabbed her hands and pulled her across the counter, just enough for her feet to lift off the ground. Ed tried to steal a kiss. Literally steal a kiss because she didn't want to give him anything.
Syn tried to pull away, but Ed's hold was real tight. Just as his lips were about to touch hers, Malachi stood up and shoved Ed away from the counter. Ed lost his footing and fell back against his stool and then to the ground. Malachi bent over him and fisted his shirt collar in his hand, pulling him back up. He started to walk Ed backwards to the door when the sheriff came over.
"What the hell is going on here?" Sheriff asked, well demanded was more like it.
"Ed here was harassing Syn." Malachi told the sheriff as the sheriff was pulling them apart. The sheriff turned to Syn and asked her what happened. She told him there was a misunderstanding and that everything was fine. She just wanted it to be done and over with.
The sheriff asked both men to leave for the evening before more trouble stirred. Ed was not pleased with this and he made sure everyone in the diner knew it.
"What the fuck! Syn, this is all your fault. Always got be a cocktease. Sway those hips one more time and I'll show you my cock sweetheart." That's when Malachi swung at Ed and knocked him to the ground. "Ok Mal. If that's how you want it." Ed hurried to his feet and swung in retaliation, only he didn't hit Malachi. Malachi moved quickly out of the way and the sheriff was the one who took the hit. Needless to say, both Malachi and Ed were taken to the sheriff's department.
Hours later Syn and Ray were cleaning up to close, Ray spoke. "Darlin, don't take it too personal. You know, the stuff Ed was spitting out. He's a grade A ass hole, but harmless. All talk and-" Ray's cell phone started ringing and he saw that it was Lucinda calling. "Just a sec, let me get this. It's Luce." She never thought she would see this burly of a man turn two shades of red and then ghost white in a flat, three seconds.
"Wha-what? Now? Like right now?... I-I'm on my way sweety. Don't let junior fall out!" Ray turned and gave Syn an apologetic and excited look all at once. "I have to-"
"Go Ray. I've got this." Syn said while shooing Ray out the front door. It was late and she never closed the diner by herself before, but how hard could it be? Well, it must've been hard because it took her two hours to close up and clean it. But everything was done and it was time to head home. When Syn got in her car and turned the key, the car didn't start. She tried a couple more times, but just got a clicking noise. She only lived some streets down, so she could walk. No big deal.
She was just coming up to the closed drug store when she heard a noise behind her. It was two in the morning, so everything in town was closed and everyone was probably asleep at home. She stopped and turned to see what it was, but found nothing there so she continued on. Just as she was passing the floral shop, she heard it again. She stopped and turned around to find nothing there. "I'm such a scaredy cat!" She spoke out loud to no one but herself. She turned back around and slammed into what felt like a brick wall of a chest.
"Thought you could get away with disrespecting me like that, Syn? Huh? I don't think so. No one does that and gets away with it." Ed said while grabbing Syn and shoving her in between the drug store and floral shop alleyway. He pinned her against the wall of one of the buildings, holding her in place. "Little bitch. Just cause you're new doesn't mean you get to take over this shit town with those hips of yours."
"Ed please stop this." She was pleading with him. "Stop it! Stop!" Syn tried fighting her way out of this, but it was no use. Ed was a big guy. Probably one of those guys who played on the high school football team. A linebacker or something like that. He was just huge and mean. Ed pushed her head hard against the wall to shut her up. There was a stinging sensation on her head and she felt liquid dripping down. Blood.
"Shut up you stupid cunt! Now I'm taking what I want and Malachi or nobody is going to stop me." Just as Ed was pulling at the hem of her uniform button down dress, there was a growl. They both turned their heads towards the back of the alleyway that led to the edge of the White Mountain forest. At first, they could only hear the growling, which became louder and more terrifying, to her at least. Then a pair of eyes came into view. They were dark, but glowing so they could be seen. These eyes, they looked familiar to Syn, but she couldn't place it. Then again, this was an animal she'd never seen before so how could they look familiar?
Ed yanked Syn's purse away and threw it at the animal. The growling became more of a snarling growl. More angry. Ed pulled Syn away from the wall and held her in front of him. What a coward. Holding a lady out front to protect his own hide. That didn't stop the animal. It came closer. The light from a street lamp hit along the animal just right to reveal it as a wolf. Not a coyote, but a wolf.
White Mountain forest was once known to house gray wolves. They were nearly wiped out, though. Now the red wolves from Canada and coyotes were the only wild K9 animals inhabiting this forest. This was definitely a wolf, but not a red wolf. It was bigger. It was stocky like a bullmastiff and tall like a great dane. The coloring was a dark gold color, almost bronze. There were two pure white stripes starting from the ears, across the back and down to the tail. It's paws were white also. Beautiful.
Ed literally tossed Syn towards the wolf and took off running towards the street. He didn't get very far because the wolf lunged at him and latched onto Ed's leg. Ed screamed but still fell to the ground. Syn was just getting to her knees when she heard Ed scream. She looked over in his direction and saw him fighting the wolf off. Syn didn't move.
"Get off you mut! Syn, help me! Get him off!" Ed was shouting to her, but still she did not move. With a force unlike she had ever seen, the wolf bit down harder and tighter on Ed's leg and swung him against the wall, knocking him out. The wolf stood there looking at Syn. Sniffing the air. The wolf came closer and closer and closer. The wolf was directly in front of her now. It's mouth opened slightly and she flinched and closed her eyes at it's movement. But then she felt something wet touch her head from where the blood dripped down.
The wolf was licking her wound, cleaning it for her. She was surprised, shocked, and still a little scared, but made no move to... move. Just then, both her and the wolf jerked their heads towards Ed. He was getting back up and didn't look happy.
Ed was reaching behind himself and what he pulled out surprised Syn. A gun. "This ain't over you stupid mut!" Ed aimed the gun at the wolf, but the wolf seemed to have anticipated his move and was already moving in his direction. The next thing Syn knew, the gun went off, Ed was on the ground, and the wolf's mouth was wrapped around Ed's neck. Blood everywhere. That’s when she felt a little faint. Her heart was racing faster than ever before. She blinked, but couldn't open her eyes. She saw nothing but darkness.
It was like images flashing in her mind. Like she was watching a movie, but it was of her. A man caressing her face while on the floor and his hand was under her shirt. She wasn't afraid, wasn't scared, she was excited. The last thing she remembered was Ed and then this man who looked familiar. It wasn't a clear image but she knew it wasn't Ed.
Another flash. She felt his long, hairy legs against hers. She ran her bare foot up the back of his calf. He kissed along her jawline and traveled down her neck.
Another image came into view. Lavender eyes. 'Malachi? Is that you?' She heard herself say. The eyes came closer, but it wasn't a man, it was a wolf.
The images changed faster and became more erotic to her. The man was back. His hands were all over her body. Squeezing her breasts. Cupping her bottom. Licking along her neck. Sucking her nipples.
The man was on his knees now. Her legs over his shoulders. His face buried in her heat. Screaming. There was lots screaming and moaning going on. She could feel the wetness between her legs.
He entered her in one hard thrust. Her back arched up to meet him and he went deeper inside her. His thrust became frantic with need and she screamed with pleasure. She could hear voices in the background, but they were far in the distance. He growled and howled and-
Syn's eyes opened slowly. The voices were louder and closer. "She's going to be fine." A man said. "We were able to remove the bullet during surgery. She got lucky, but she lost a lot of blood so we'll keep her for a few days." The doctor, she assumed, put her chart down on the table and continued. "We gave her a sedative to help her rest some more and some morphine for the pain. We expect a full recovery."
Once Syn's eyes opened fully, she could see Ray, Lucinda sitting in a wheelchair holding a baby, and Malachi.
"M-M-Malachi," she called out. And then she closed her eyes to blink, but the darkness returned.
