With trepidatious steps, Lena entered DiMarco's & Santinos. She looked over at Mama's Santinos side, before a happy Papa DiMarco kissed both her cheeks and took her order. Carefully, she tiptoed over to Mama Santinos side, and looked around. Tony's sister, Maggie, would still sell to her if Mama Santinos wasn't looking. She breathed a side of relief, until she heard coughing behind her.

Jumping, she spun around and saw Mama Santinos looking at her with crossed arms. "I know what I said, but hear me out," Lena started as the woman tapped her foot on the tile floor. "I had to side with my grandmother, you're Italian. You better than anyone should know that you have to side with your family. I didn't mean to say it. The words just leapt from my mouth. I truly regret using the word dry."

The woman looked at her, and Lena pleaded, "Please, Mama Santinos. You're the one who taught me how to cook! You're the one who feeds me when I can't bring myself to cook. Do not regulate me to Franco's. He can really only do pizza, and it's not even that good. It's the tourtist joint. He closes for an entire month three times out of the year, because the locals won't go there! What do I have to do?"

Tony coughed, a few tables away on Papa DiMarco's side of the restaurant. "Really?" Lena said, remembering their conversation the day before. "You Italians are so . . .." She sighed and sank to her knees. "Mama Santinos. I am so sorry for saying your ricotta cheesecakes are dry. I didn't mean to help my grandmother, by cutting you down. I knew you were going to win anyway! I was just trying to save face with my family."

A soft hand slid under Lena's chin, and lifted it up. "Lena, sweet Lena. I understand. Let's get you sorted," Mama Santinos smiled down at her.

Lena sighed and got to her feet. "Thank you, so much, Mama Santinos, because there's this guy-."

"Aieeaaa! Lena has a boyfriend," Mama Santinos cried out. She clapsed her hands and raised it to the heavens, and then kissed Lena on either cheek.

"I'm not a spinster! I'm barely halfway through my twenties!" Lena replied, but Mama Santinos was too busy calling for Papa DiMarco to come over.

They discussed her order and what had to change about it. When Papa DiMarco relayed Lena's usual, along with other fried foods, Mama Santinos grabbed her hand and smacked the back of it. "Bad, Lena. You cannot feed a man such food. You need to woo him with it."

"But- I like those things."

"Lena. I love you like one of my own, but you know better. You don't want such fried, greasy foods on a date," Mama Santinos told her.

"We burn it off!" Lena insisted.

Both Mama Santinos and Papa DiMarco bristled over her statement.

"Aw, come on!" Maggie interjected. "I couldn't tell you guys I wasn't a virgin, until not even after my marriage, but until I was popping out the first kid."

Maggie, of course, was ignored, and Lena had no say in her order anymore.

Hopefully, it was worth it, because Noah was sliding back in his chair, his hand on his stomach. "I didn't even know half of this was on the menu."

"It's not, unless you're in with the family."

"Oh, so someone's back in Mama Santinos' good graces. How much groveling did you have to do?" Noah asked.

"I think you'll figure that out when you see dessert," Lena answered.

He lifted the lid, and then grinned at her. "Cheesecake?"

"Not just cheesecake. Tiramisu-cheesecake fusion," Lena said, gesturing for emphasis with her hands. "Because Mama S is a genius."

Knowingly, Noah chuckled, "You did a lot of groveling then. You were on your knees."

"I could be on my knees now, or do you want to keep talking about how much begging I did to still be allowed in the only good Italian restaurant in town?" Lena said.

Her meaning did not surpass him. He slid back from the table, and for the second time, Lena hit her knees.
